One Foot Wonder

I had a meeting this afternoon and Travis had one this evening so I met him and the boys at a restaurant to have dinner and trade off the boys. Travis left for his meeting before the boys and I were finished eating. This restaurant has a bunch of newspaper machines out front with free newspapers inside. The boys like to grab a paper on the way out – it makes them feel grown-up to have their own paper. So West tries to open a machine and the door sticks. He gives the door another good tug and it flies open and then the entire machine topples over onto the sidewalk – and his foot. It all happened so fast that I couldn't get over to him quickly enough to stop it. I knew immediately that this couldn't be good; that machine had to weigh at least 100 pounds. We headed straight from the restaurant to Children's Mercy. Sure enough, it turned out that two of the top bones are broken. He got a pretty yellow splint and then he'll get a cast in a few days when the swelling goes down.

Cash was so excited about West getting an X-ray. He started asking where the X-ray machine was as soon as we walked through the door. After they took the X-ray, Cash could hardly wait for it to be developed. The doctor gave him a copy to keep. He hung it up on his bedroom wall as soon as we got home.

Not as traumatic as two broken bones in the leg, but my Joey broke her wrist last week! I feel bad for the little guy, as Joey can still run around!
